The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit in 2015 and took effect in January 2016. In order to achieve these goals – including the eradication of poverty, expansion of health and education, promotion of industrial and technological innovation, and pursuit of peace and justice – corporations, non-profit organizations, and individuals are expected to play a wide range of roles. In this session, we will discuss actions taken to achieve the SDGs through the power of the private sector and individuals based on conservatism, an approach that has not been considered previously in Japan – or the rest of the world.
