Leader of the Democratic Party for the People (DPP) and a member of Japan's House of Representatives. He holds a master's degree in public policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. After working at the Main Accounting Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2009. He chose not to join the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and instead formed the DPP and served as its leader ever since. He is known as a conservative representative and for proposing alternative policies as a member of the opposition in the Diet. The DPP has been steadily increasing its share of votes and is particularly popular among younger generations.
